In the quarter-finals of the Junior World Championships, there was a real big surprise when the Czech Republic knocked out Canada, but another bomb was also close in the meeting between Sweden and Switzerland.
Switzerland stretched the match to extra time, but fell in the end Rodwin Dionicio to freeze. During that time Axel Sandin Pellikka scored a 3–2 winning goal for the hosts.
Kelloma’s coach Marcel Jennin it was hard to digest the ropey hook session Dionicio got.
– We played a good game, but it was incredibly bad in overtime. I had the feeling that they wanted to do everything for Sweden’s victory, and it wasn’t pleasant at the end, but I tried to focus on my own team, Jenni commented according to Aftonbladet.
According to the Ruotsalaislehti, Jenni left after the match to clarify the matter with the head referee. He had been answered briefly that the judge would not give the same sentence again.
– In any case, it’s too late, we just have to congratulate Sweden. I have a lot of respect for Sweden, the way they play and move the puck. I felt in the morning that we had a chance and Sweden was nervous, but it wasn’t enough, Jenni stated.
Also manager of the Swiss team Lars Weibel brought up the officiating after the match.
– I am honest with you. I don’t want to complain about the judge, but that ice was hard to handle and melt.
Switzerland won only one match in the tournament. It secured its next place with a 6–2 win over Norway.
Sweden will face the Czech Republic in the semi-final. Finland will also receive the pre-favorite USA, which is leading the field.
