The secrets of the art of printing in the exhibition Printing R-Evolution, 1450-1500

On the tenth anniversary of its founding, Ampersand Editions presents a very important exhibition that shows the impact of the printing revolution on the economic and social development of Europe during modernity. The sample is called “Printing R-Evolution, 1450-1500: The printing revolution and reconstructs the circulation, in the Argentine territory, of the first printed books.

It has its origin in Venice, where it was inaugurated in 2018, in the running museum and the Martian National Library and was visited by almost two hundred thousand people. Through images, graphics, videos and infographics, the exhibition describes the evolution of the book in the world and brings it closer to the general public to encourage support for the publishing industry and the conservation of heritage carried out by libraries.

The area of ​​cultural programs of Editorial Ampersand presents, in collaboration with MUNTREFthe cycles to be developed during the weekends of February and March 2023. On Saturday, February 11, at 4:00 p.m., there will be a presentation “Protagonists of the colonial typography of Buenos Aires”, by Fabio Ares, and “Raúl Rosarivo and the divine proportion of incunabula” by paul ugerman. All activities will take place in MUNTREF Contemporary Art Center – Immigrants Headquarters Hotellocated at Av. Antártida Argentina 1355.

These are inclusive programs in different formats: from conferences with specialists to creative and interactive experiences with leaders from the world of printing. The programs have the participation of Nora Altrudi, Fabio Ares, Ro Barragán, Belleza Fiorito, Soledad Bohdziewicz, Marcela Borelli, Roberto Casazza, Marcela Coria, Alejandro Dujovne, Tomás Fadel, Gabriela Halac, Ana Mosqueda, Lorena Pradal, Eric Schierloh, Pablo Ugerman, Roberto Vega and Ral Veroni , among others.

As part of the exhibition, a catalog was published by Ampersandsin a bilingual version, entitled “Printing R-Evolution, 1450-1500: The printing revolution. Fifty years that changed the world”, edited and prefaced by Cristina Dondi, with translation and preface by Ana Mosqueda, and texts of Roberto Casazza for the Argentine section.

He Cycle of artisan printers, during several meetings, It will bring together a series of documentary, practical and theoretical activities, in relation to working with the printing press, movable type, artisanal editions and how it is done and what are the implications of carrying out a trade of this type today. Various contemporary Argentine artists who work with techniques related to the printing revolution, such as serigraphy, xylography or the development of different typographies, will be present in the exhibition.
