British actress Julian Sands, 65, has been missing for almost half a year. Sands was reported missing on Friday, January 13, after he went hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains of California.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday that they have continued to search for Sands. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office has conducted a total of eight ground and air searches related to Sands. Volunteers have spent more than 500 hours searching for the actor.

According to the release, more than 80 search and rescue workers and volunteers searched for Sands last Saturday. Two helicopters and drones were also on the scene, carrying out an “aerial search and assessment”.

Authorities have previously said Sands is believed to have disappeared near Mt. Baldy area, because his cell phone has been giving signals from that area.

The sheriff’s department also shared video footage of the search on its official Twitter account.

According to the authorities, “extreme weather conditions” make the search for Sands difficult despite the summer. In addition to this, the steep terrain makes it difficult to move in the mountains.

Harsh weather conditions have posed constant challenges in the search for Sands. In the winter, searches were only carried out by helicopter, as the avalanche had made ground searches too dangerous.

– It is very dangerous, and even experienced hikers have trouble getting there, the sheriff’s office stated in the winter.

In the end, the search had to be stopped completely due to the weather conditions.
