The School Council of Catalonia faces its most tense plenary session due to the new calendar

Cambray attends this appointment with the desire to explain a “political decision” (in the words of the ‘president’ Aragonès) that, as he has defended these days, the Government took “convinced” of its “goodness” within its strategy of “educational transformation” and taking into account previous reports from the Consell that valued that the holidays Schools were too long. Last Friday, the ‘minister’ confirmed his decision to maintain the progress of the beginning of the course but opened the door to discuss how to apply the measures included in the new calendar: the intensive day in september and the after-school hour that Educació will pay for from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to guarantee that students can stay at school during their usual schedule.

Repairs of teachers and families

The educative community He is waiting for what the ‘conseller’ says. More bothered by the forms and the absence of planning, than by the progress of the beginning of the course itself. Centers, teachers and families they would have liked to debate it beforehand to see how this measure could have been carried out with the agreement of all. Teachers have warned they hardly have time to prepare the course. They used to have the first 10 days of September to do it. Now they only have two. “In those days a lot of work is done. Preparatory meetings, transfer of information between teachers about the students, training”, he sums up Meritxell Ruiz, president of the Foundation of Christian Schools of Catalonia. Educació expects that, with the intensive day in September, teachers will have one hour a day –from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.– to do this work. Something that teachers see as totally insufficient, apart from the fact that the course is already underway.

The family association AFFAC He goes to the plenary session with the intention of transferring to Cambray his disagreement with “the ways” in which the calendar has been decided, “without debating it” with the educational community, and with the intensive day in September. aFFac fears that after the intensive day there will be an attempt to “privatization of educational time”. They want guarantees that family associations will be able to continue participating in the organization of leisure activities in non-school time, according to the director of aFFac, Lidon Gasull. This entity has asked Education for a meeting with the ‘minister’ to discuss this matter and has called on all parties to “recover bridges of dialogue”. For its part, the Fapel family association will recriminate the ‘conseller’ for “forms” and will demand “dialogue” because trust has been broken.

The Union youtec will insist on demanding the withdrawal of the calendar order and opening “real negotiations” on the various issues that have caused the strike call, from the calendar to the resumes. From UGTthey will remind Cambray that “forms do matter” and they will make the “unilateral nature” of his decisions ugly.

The unions, in addition to aFFac, Fapaes, Rosa Sensat, Federation of Pedagogical Renewal Movements and other entities grouped in the Unitary Framework of the Educational Community (MUCE), demand a “rectification” from Educació to “create serene and coordinated planning dynamics”. “Education is everyone’s business, and it should not go through public proclamations that generate more tension in the educational system and reduce the confidence of the educational community,” they point out in a joint statement.
