Arto Bryggare analyzes Karsten Warholm’s situation.
The big question at the World Championships in Budapest is: does the judging council have the will to field a Norwegian star runner Karsten Warholm out of men’s 400m hurdles final?
– Warholm’s name is so important. We need really clear evidence that he has gone over the side of the fence, says Iltalehti’s expert Arto Bryggare.
The Italian Gazzetta reports that Italy has filed a protest against Warholm’s run. If it goes through and the Norwegian is rejected, the Italian Alessandro Sibalo advances to the final competition instead of him.
The Norwegian’s other leg seemed to go over the side of the fence and not over as it should go according to the rules.
– He came to the fence at such a high speed that he drifted so close to the fence that the leg seems to go around the outside. It will be very dramatic if he is dropped after a wild semi-final.
In true curves of 400 meters, it sometimes happens to the athlete that at high speed the leg goes over in the wrong place.
– There have been such cases. Among other things, the same thing happened to the American runner who was eliminated from the continuation in the Budapest semi-final. He clearly ran from the sidelines.
Warholm is the 400m hurdles Olympic champion, world champion and ME man.
