The “Last Message Received” blog collects last messages that people have received from other people. Behind them are touching stories of sadness and heartbreak.
Whether it’s a final message from a partner before a breakup or the last words of a loved one before they died – they are words that the other person will never forget. On the Tumblr blog “The Last Message Received,” thousands have posted these exact words. There is also a short description of which situation and which person it is. They are usually heartbreaking words that won’t let you go so quickly.
“The Last Message Received“ is the project of Emily Trunko. She started the blog as a 16-year-old high school student from the small town of Copley, Ohio. She has collected thousands of letters and text messages from mostly anonymous senders for this purpose. Here are some examples:
“I’m sorry I didn’t answer you”
This sad case dates back to the beginning of 2018. In April 2021, the affected person described his sad case to the blog “The last message received”.

The story behind it:
“I always thought I could message him later, but eventually I forgot to reply because I didn’t really use Facebook. Four months after he sent this, he died in an accident. I will always hate myself for not answering him. The two-year anniversary of his death was just three weeks ago. I’m sorry I didn’t answer you. I miss you.”
“I trained you well”
Also in 2021, “The last message received” reached this sad case from 2018. Latest messages full of humor between two very good friends.

A: “I’m working with a different Erick now. But as you can see, spelling your name with C and K…kind of weird.”
b (also called Eric): “Losers need extra letters to get just a little bit of my awesomeness.” A: “Hahahaha, that’s exactly what I thought!”

Translation of the story behind it:
“About a month later the cancer took him away from us. He was the funniest asshole I’ve ever been friends with. Miss him every day.”

The third example is about the painful end of a relationship that left the abandoned person heartbroken.

Translation of the storye behind it:
“One of the last messages I received from her was about a month after she left for college and our relationship broke up. We tried to stay friends, but that didn’t work. A week earlier she had told me that her first thoughts in the morning were my kisses. Then she thought about coming home to me every night, and the next thing was that she coldly banned me from her life. It still hurts how easy it was for her, someone I really loved, to do something like that, but I’m starting to feel better. But I still miss talking to her about the little things.”

Translation of the story behind it:
“My girlfriend died on Valentine’s Day 2017, about a month before her 19th birthday. Our last conversation was about a video game. She had been struggling with cystic fibrosis for a long time, and when I visited her toward the end, she was so high on painkillers that she didn’t even realize I was there. She trusted me to deliver her final message to the rest of her friends and family, and I did so the day after her death. I also spread the news to the people who followed her DeviantArt page.”
