– The due date was 15.10, i.e. Sunday. The payment came a few days earlier, the site manager of the City of Helsinki Sami Haapanen confirm.
In August, the situation was different. At that time, the Russian-owned background company of the arena, Helsinki Halli oy, first failed to pay the ground rent, but later took care of the entire amount.
– It was several weeks late, but now there are no more open rental receivables, Haapanen says.
Were you surprised that the October payment came on time?
– As a rule, the payments come from the tenants on time, so it was not surprising in that sense.
The ground rent for the Helsinki hall is paid annually in four installments. The next due date is March 1, 2024.
This year, the ground rent was a total of 386,000 euros. The amount changes annually with index revisions.
The arena has been unused since Russia started a war of aggression in Ukraine. The arena is owned by Russian oligarchs Gennady Timchenko and Roman Rotenberg through Arena Events oy.
Arean Events oy holds all the hall company’s C-series shares, i.e. 44.98 percent of all shares, but they entitle more than 90 percent of the voting power.
