The runway over the sea at El Prat airport “is a serious proposal for debate”

Three engineerstwo economists and a ecologist have detailed this Tuesday the proposal to build a runway over the sea to expand the El Prat airport. They have chosen the headquarters of the Col·legi d’Economistes de Barcelona and, as explained by the economist Guillem Lopez-Casasnovas, his will is to open the debate. “We do not come to sell or place anything: it is us. Someone might think that it is an occurrence but it is not an improvisation“, has warned.

He Engineer Joaquim Coello He has been in charge of explaining the brakes for the Barcelona aerodrome to grow. He has assured that the infrastructure would need two tracks of 3,500 meters in length so that the intercontinental flights operate “normally” because the one by the sea has “limitations” due to the acoustic impact over Gavà Mar. If it were decided to extend the short runway, the one by the sea, would negatively impact in the protected areas of the Delta del Llobregat, has warned.

six months of work

With casasnovas and neckin the center of the narrow table, was the ‘former minister’ Andreu Mas-Colellwhich has been in charge of the most political evaluations: “It is not an exotic or crazy proposal” or “We are a collection of individualities buffs to think about Barcelona and now it is the Generalitat that owes it present to Aena“, Has invited.

Coello, which is part of the Foment del Treball commission and who has been working on this proposed track over the sea since about six months ago, has differentiated it from others in the world. “We do not want build a platform on a artificial islandas there is some case in Japan, but with a pylon technology why the waves of the sea would pierce. The storms would not make a dent because even the Gloria had such high waves.” It would take four years to build it, it would cost 2.2 billion of euros, would have 3,500 meters in length and would be located a kilometer and a half from the coast.

From land, as the track is 10 meters above sea level, “it has no visual impact”, Coello assured while showing a photograph (“Judge for yourselves”, he has shown). He Engineer Fernando Hermosilla-“the person who has intervened the most in the project”, according to Coello-, has compared his idea with that of building a track on an island, which would have “a very high environmental impact because we would be generating a barrier”.

“We are not going to destroy the tides of the area, with our pile forest sediment movement will be reduced”, he described. Along with him was also the ecologist Joandomènec Ros, who recalled that he studied the area in 1991 and was polluted: “Now the study must be repeated”, has fit.

The promoters have presented the idea to the ‘president’ of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès (who announced that he does not see it viable, but that the formula will be analyzed in the commission agreed between the Government and the PSC), to the ‘conseller’ of Territori, Juli Fernandez. They have explained it to the ‘councillor’ of Economy, Natàlia Mas, and in the next few days they will meet with Junts or the PSC so that they know it, although both have already expressed their doubts about the feasibility.
