The Madrid city of Pozuelo de Alarcón in Madrid It is for the third consecutive year richest municipality in Spain. Pozuelo de Alarcón ended 2021 with a declared average gross income of 80,243 euroswhich represents a slight increase of 1.2% compared to 2020, according to the data released this Wednesday by the Tax Agency.
The published statistics exclude the municipalities with less than 1,000 inhabitants and those of the Basque Country and Navarrawhich are not part of the common regime and offers a comprehensive perspective of the average gross personal income in each location, as well as an estimate of disposable income.
The average disposable income of those registered in Pozuelo de Alarcón rose in 2021 to 57,977 euros, from 57,956 euros in 2020. In this municipality of 87,728 inhabitants, which has luxury developments such as La Finca, they were registered in 2021 a total of 46,616 declarations.
In second place was the Barcelona municipality of Matadepera, which with 9,752 inhabitants and 5,142 declarations, slips into the ‘top three’ of wealthy Spanish municipalities, since the previous year it was in fourth place. The average gross income in this municipality reached 69,511 euros in 2021 and the average disposable income reached 50,704 euros, which represents an increase of 17% and 14.5%, respectively, compared to 2020.
The Madrid municipality of Boadilla del Monte repeats in third position, with 62,627 inhabitants and 30,630 declarations, presenting an average gross income of 63,007 euros and an average disposable income of 46,480 euros, higher than the previous year. The town is home to the corporate headquarters of Banco Santander.
Madrid and Barcelona, in the first positions
After them they appear as municipalities with the highest gross income Sant Just Desvern (Barcelona), with 58,640 euros; Alcobendas (Madrid), with 58,525 euros; Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona), with 58,084 euros; Alella (Barcelona), with 57,221 euros; Teià (Barcelona), with 57,116 euros; Majadahonda (Madrid), with 57,105 euros and Torrelodones (Madrid), with 56,164 euros.
The case of Riudarenes (Girona) is surprising, a municipality that in 2020 shot to second position in this ranking, registering an average gross income of 67,302 euros – due to the strong growth in returns on movable capital, perhaps motivated by dividends–, and now in 2021 it falls by half, with an average of 32,022 euros, similar to other years.
The poorest municipalities
On the other side of the list, Higuera de Vargas (Badajoz) appears as the municipality with the lowest income, with 12,737 euros declared average gross income. It follows Pedro Martínez (Grenade), with 13,479 euros; and Zahinos (Badajoz)with 13,536 euros.
