AND already a few weeks ago we hear people talk about Covid-19 more insistently: with the arrival of the cold, in fact, the virus has struck again and in recent days, it has been doing so in a rather sustained manner. This is why the Ministry of Health has reiterated again symptomatic patients are obliged to carry out swabs. Not to everyone, though.
Return of Covid, the Ministry’s circular
The indication has been included in a new circular entitled Indications for carrying out diagnostic tests for SarsCoV-2 for access and hospitalization in healthcare facilities. It was signed by the ministry’s director of health prevention, Francesca Vaia and transmitted to the Regions. The text underlines that «considering the current clinical-epidemiological trend of the SarsCoV-2 infection» it is considered essential «to make the swab mandatory for people with symptoms entering hospitals and emergency rooms».
People with symptoms
Specifically, we read that «it is indicated carrying out diagnostic tests for SarsCoV-2», but not only: in fact, it is considered essential to carry out tests also for the other viruses in circulation at the moment: namely, the influenza virus, the Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV), the Rhinovirus, the Parainfluenza viruses, the Adenoviruses, Metapneumovirus , Bocavirus and other human Coronaviruses other than SarsCoV2″. The measure relating to access to residential health and social-health facilities is reinstated to protect fragile people at risk due to age or concomitant pathologies.
Peak in Covid infections between Christmas and New Year
The increase in Covid infections in the last week has been good 56,404 new cases, and the ever-increasing circulation of respiratory viruses which filled the pediatric wards in Milan, has set the Ministry in motion to ensure that the most fragile categories are protected. The decision comes after experts estimated the achievement of peak of infections of Covid and the flu during the holidays: between Christmas And New Year’s.
The other indications on the circular
The circular also reiterates the importance of: strengthening the RespiVirNet surveillance system, which is based on a network of sentinel doctors made up of general practitioners and pediatricians recruited by the regions, who report cases of flu-like syndrome observed among their patients. This is especially true in the Regions that did not reach the population coverage expected last season. So activate virological surveillance in the Regions where it is not yet present, implementing it in the Regions where it is present.
