Clothing shopping can be a frustrating experience, especially for women, when current styles and trends are too revealing – not everyone wants to flaunt everything all the time, and in many cases – for example in the office – it’s just inappropriate.
The decision to wear modest fashion – i.e. fashion that is more veiling or reserved – has long been considered religiously motivated – is becoming more and more popular in general. This is evidenced by the modest fashion collection or items from many leading brands such as H&M, Farfetch and Nike. More and more women want to break away from the idea that more (liberally) is more in fashion. The dress code in the office is rather low-key anyway, and with post-pandemic travel on the rise again, it’s probably a good idea to adopt a low-key approach when visiting new places with a street style yet to be discovered.
However, according to retailer The Reflective, shopping from modest fashion retailers remains a challenge for women. “Women shoppers are still forced to manually sort out clothing that doesn’t meet their needs, resulting in a frustrating and time-consuming process. Also, they are often disappointed to find that what appears to be a simple piece of clothing they have purchased is much more revealing than it appeared online.”
Reason enough for the New York-based company to launch its Modest Marketplace, a platform that offers a seamless and convenient shopping experience for modest fashion. It features over 1,000 of the latest Modest Fashion items to choose from, including ready-to-wear, eveningwear, swimwear, athleisure and even headscarves. All items come from leading fashion brands, designers and boutiques, over 90 percent of which are founded by women, are sustainable and/or made to order.

“At The Reflective, our team is made up of fashion professionals who dress themselves in the most modest fashion. We deeply understand the needs of our community and believe that every woman has the right to look and feel beautiful in a way that reflects her religious values,” said The Reflective Founder and CEO, Liza Sakhaie, in a press release.
“We know that affordability and style are key for the modest fashion wearer and we recognize that the options currently available do not meet these needs. Our Modest Marketplace puts an end to the tedious process of modest shopping, offering the latest in fashion-forward clothing, plus content and tips for styling a modest wardrobe. Our goal is to empower our community to effortlessly express their personal style and feel beautiful,” explains Sakhaie.
The Reflective is a New York-based modest fashion retail company dedicated to empowering women of all faiths and bridging the gap between fashion and modest fashion. It was founded in 2020 by a team of fashion experts, including a former Bloomingdale’s employee.
“I spent ten years in the fashion industry and was surrounded by a superficial vanity that inspired me to find a way to give clothes meaning without making my body the focal point. However, I found my personality slipping away with a more conservative style, so I set out to find understated ways to wear the styles I’ve always felt most confident in: jeans, pantsuits, and camisole dresses. It’s our goal to share products and style secrets with all women who wear modest fashion,” Sakhaie explains on the company’s website.
