The official college of referees in England (PGMOL, for its acronym in English) has apologized to Everton for the error of the referee and the VAR in not giving him a penalty against Manchester City.

The Goodison Park team claimed a penalty in one of the last plays of the match against City this Saturday for a handball by Rodri inside the area. However, neither Paul Tierneyreferee on the field, nor chris kavanaghin the VAR position, decreed the maximum penalty.

This led Everton to file a complaint with the Premier, for what they considered an unfair decision and one that influenced the outcome of the match, which was won by the Pep Guardiola by 0-1.

According to Sky Sports, mike rileydirector of PGMOL, personally called Frank Lampardmanager of Everton, already Bill Kenwrightteam owner, to apologize for what happened.

“It’s an incredible, incredible decision that has kept us from getting what we deserved,” he said. Lampard at the conclusion of the match against Everton.

Not giving Everton the penalty prevented them from drawing the match and keeps them in the lower part of the table. The ‘Toffees’ are seventeenth, with 22 units, only one above relegation. In addition, with the victory, City extends its lead over Liverpool to six points, although the ‘Reds’ still have one less game to play.
