The recount confirms Collboni’s 10 councilors and keeps Colau third

The recount of the Zone Electoral Board has determined this Friday that there is no change of positions regarding the results that were announced on Sunday once the scrutiny of the municipal elections in Barcelona was completed. He PSC maintains its 10 councilors and Barcelona in Comú is third with nine. Socialists expand his lead by about 200 votes.

The proximity of the figures obtained by the Socialists and Comuns, 131,735 votes for Jaume Collboni and 131,594 for Ada Colau, gave a special incentive to the usual recount that the Electoral Board does after the elections. Both candidacies achieved 19.8% of the votes, but those 141 votes difference gave the Socialists one more councilor, 10 to 9 of the Comuns, and second place. After the recount, the official figures are as follows: the PSC achieved 131,923 votes and the Comuns, 131,581. That is, the distance from 141 is extended to 342.

be second or third

It is a relevant nuance, because it is always better to be the second force than the third in the consistory, although it is not as decisive as those of Colau considered, who on Sunday argued that if they were second they would have more options to convince ERC to participate in a pact with BComú and the PSC, although the Republicans have dismissed that option more than outright.

Probably one of the first people to know the news has been one of the most affected by it: Rachel Gil, who was in tenth place on the Socialist list, has been one of the members of the party who has participated in the recount. And he has seen live how he saved his place.

the count

This Friday, two large delegations from proxies and controllers of the PSC and Barcelona en Comú, and to a lesser extent than the rest of the main parties, they have gone to the Ciutat de la Justícia to the headquarters of the Zone Electoral Board, to participate in a count that was announced to be long – it has even been said that it could take three days- but that has finally concluded after more than eight hours, shortly before seven in the evening. Then the Board took a while to determine the outcome, among other things due to a specific conflict: a table in Ciutat Vella in which 150 votes were at stake.

According to Barcelona en Comú, the certificate of your attorney he registered as his 150 votes that were granted to Ciutadans in the minutes of the table. That is why they were being claimed, something that the Electoral Board did not see as appropriate. This discrepancy has led to speculation that the Comuns will challenge the result, for which they have 24 hours.

An appeal before the Zone Electoral Board would not delay the investiture of the new mayor, scheduled for June 17. If it is presented and is rejected, the Comuns could appeal to the Central Electoral Board. If this does not agree with them either, they could present a judicial appeal and it would be then that the investiture would be delayed to July 7, the first day of the electoral campaign of the generals on July 23.

tension in the room

There has been some tension between Comuns and Socialistsboth during the count and at the end, when Barcelona en Comú has accused a socialist proxy of walking around the tables pretending that she was from the Zone Electoral Board.

The room of the Electoral Board, which is usually empty between elections, was this Friday full of people with mixed hopes. In reality, what has happened is not exactly a recount, because there can be no recount of the valid votes cast for the different candidacies: the ballots have already been destroyed. The invalid votes are kept, along with the minutes of each table. Only the voids that were challenged on Sunday have been reviewed.

What is analyzed in the review is that the minutes of each polling station coincide with the lists that the officials who depend on the Central Government Delegation sent on Sunday from the schools to Indra, a company hired for the electoral process. With these lists, the results of the municipal elections were reached. If a discrepancy is detected between the two counts, the one in the minutes of the table is considered good.

Trias and Collboni celebrate the count

Junts and PSC, the most benefited by the now final results, have rushed to celebrate them. Xavier Trias has underlined in a tweet his “uncontested victory” and that “the public has voted for change”, showing a photograph of the minutes of the recount. The PSC has considered that “it is confirmed” that it is “the first progressive force in Barcelona”, for which reason Jaume Collboni is “the one who has the capacity to lead a progressive and stable City Council”: “We urge the rest of the forces to dialogue thinking in Barcelona and in the will expressed by the people of Barcelona”.

best the caribbean

“I have had to preside over the Zone Electoral Board by lottery. I would have preferred if I had had a trip to the Caribbean & rdquor ;, the judge has warned with a reticence Joan Marsal to the small crowd waiting to participate at about 10 in the morning. Marsal has organized the operation and has demanded urgency: “We have to finish today & rdquor ;.

At each table there was an official, a representative chosen by lot and representatives of the parties. The envelopes that arrived from the polling stations have been opened, where the minutes and the invalid votes appear. In several, explained those attending the recount, pieces of chorizo have appeared in the envelopes, as has been the case for years in voting. As a novelty, in other cases the photo of the chorizo has appeared.
