the question of the party to the militancy

The militancy of Junts will have the last word on the breakup of the Government. The party executive has closed this Monday the formula with which she will consult the 6,000 affiliates, between Thursday and Friday, if they must stay or leave the Consell Executiu. According to Europa Press, the question is: “Do you want Junts to continue being part of the Government of Catalonia?”a statement from which three response options will emerge: yes, no or blank.

It remains to be seen, according to training sources, the paragraph that will precede the question, very relevant because it will allow us to see which way the direction is leaning. Even more so considering that the leadership is divided between those who advocate signing the divorce with Esquerra as soon as possible and those who push to raise the margin and maintain the Government, considering the loss of influence, positions and power that this entails. Starting at 5:30 p.m., JxCat will give all the details at a press conference.

After a frenetic weekend, ERC and Junts have not reached an agreement to redirect the crisis that the Government is experiencing. The channels of communication between the ‘president’ Pere Aragones and the general secretary of JxCat, Jordi Turull, were open, with greater or lesser intensity, during Sunday, but it was unsuccessful. Junts announced last Thursday that he would submit the permanence or not in the Consell Executiu to the consideration of the militancy but that, before, he would try to talk ‘in extremis’ about a series of specifications on the three conditions that in his opinion do not comply with the pact of government, which did not clarify until the following afternoon: the reinstatement of Puigneró, that a new ‘general state’ be created with the Consell per la República as ‘sanhedrin’, that his alignment be accepted at the dialogue table even if it is not of ‘ ministers’, and that there be coordination in Congress. Some points that, according to Palau sources, are tailored to not be accepted, since they are part of the main resignations of the party if they were accepted by Aragonès.

Late last night, the post-convergence canceled one of its demands, the reinstatement of Puigneró, since, according to several sources, the former vice president himself wanted to get out of the equation and asked Turull not to use his name to negotiate with CKD. In any case, from Palau they defend that the proposal came to them via ‘whatsapp’, in a generic way, and that it maintained the will that Carles Puigdemont’s para-institutional entity be in command of the strategic direction (something unaffordable for the Republicans and that already starred in the clashes to form the Government in 2021), but they left behind the request about Puigneró, something that “does not solve anything and raises many more questions.”
