Photographer Jane Barlow took the last official photos of Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday.
The monarch, while frail, was in good spirits, Barlow, who works for Britain’s PA news agency, said on Friday.
She spoke to the Queen about the weather and the dark clouds in the sky, Barlow told the PA agency. She took a few portraits and got loads of smiles from the Queen.
The reason for the photo session was the visit of the conservative politician Liz Truss, who was formally commissioned by the Queen to form a government after Boris Johnson had vacated the post early due to numerous scandals.
“While I was there to photograph her meeting with the new Prime Minister, for me the best pictures were those of the Queen alone,” Barlow said. “And of course they have even more meaning now.”
The Queen died Thursday at her country home in Balmoral, Scotland, aged 96.
