The happy social media post of the Finnish national football team received crushing feedback.
The official social media account of the Finnish men’s national football team, Huuhkajat, caused a stir with its activity on Twitter.
On Monday, the national team account recalled the historic event from two years ago, when Finland played its first match in the men’s prestigious tournament and beat the host team Denmark in its EC opener Joel Pohjanpalon with a goal of 1–0.
– Happened on this date 2021: Denmark vs. Finland 0–1. Two years have passed since Huuhkajie’s historic European Championship match at Parken. A match that will remain in our memories forever.
The published game photos glowed with the spirit of a victorious night. For example, in one picture Lukas Hradecky roars Paulus Arajuuren next to the megaphone after the match that ended.
The match in question is remembered outside of Finland for everything other than Pohjanpalo’s goal or Huuhkajie’s perseverance. The match made headlines around the world when Denmark’s star player Christian Eriksen the heart stopped and the man began to fight to the death on the grass of the field.

The frightening and arresting situation lasted for several minutes. The continuation of the match was uncertain, but the Danes agreed to play it to the end, even though their thoughts revolved mainly around their teammate who was being rushed to the hospital.
Huuhkajie’s social media post gathered comments remembering Eriksen, praising Finnish fans and criticizing the content of the social media post.
– I was there and believe me: the result worth celebrating was when Eriksen beat death 1-0. Your fans were so awesome and respectful and I can’t thank you enough for that. Maybe one of them should be the admin of your new social media account, a Twitter user comment.
– Really? The rest of the world remembers Christian Eriksen. That match should never have been finished, another one answered.
The subject seems to be still sensitive in Denmark. The major Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet also wondered about Huuhkajie’s social media use on their own pages.

The administrator of Huuhkajie’s social media account raised his hand and apologized the next day for the content of the previous publication.
– We apologize that our publication was poorly formatted. That was by no means our intention. The real reason why this match will remain forever in our memories is Christian Eriksen. The administrator was also there, crying and cheering with you. And I’m really sorry, Huhkajas tweeted.
In connection with the text, Huuhkajat published a video in which Danish and Finnish fans repeated Eriksen’s name at Parken. The gesture even shocked the International Football Association, Fifa, when it awarded it the Fifa Fan Award trophy at the same year’s awards gala.

Huuhkaj has the opportunity to create new happy memories this week, as the national team heads towards new European Championship qualifying home games. Finland will face Slovenia on Friday and San Marino on Monday.
Denmark also plays in the same H-qualifying group, which beat Finland at the same Parken in March. The teams will meet again in Finland on September 10.
