Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced tonight that supporters are welcome again in football stadiums from tomorrow, albeit under strict conditions. For example, clubs are only allowed to open a third of the stadium capacity to the public and showing a valid QR code is mandatory.
“For football stadiums and other outdoor sports locations, there is a mandatory seat and one and a half meters away. This means that the stadiums can be filled to a third and of course it is intended that the fans are well spread over the stadium,” said Rutte about the football stadiums. A valid QR code is therefore also required to gain access to the stadiums. This can be a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or a negative test.
KNVB does not agree
The KNVB and the four professional clubs in North Holland already announced earlier today that they found a third of the stadium capacity too little. Ajax, AZ, Volendam and Telstar therefore released a statement themselves. The clubs indicate that they want to think along in solutions. For example, they propose to only start with 1/3 occupancy if it is possible to switch to at least 2/3 occupancy from 4 February. “We can organize that safely and responsibly. With everything that goes with it. And from there we can quickly work towards full stadiums”, as can be read in the statement of the various professional clubs.
