The PSOE also agrees on the amnesty with Junts and Sánchez is one step away from his investiture

After agreeing on the amnesty law with ERC, the PSOE has done the same with Together for Catalonia, resolving the investiture of Pedro Sanchez which is expected for next week if the PNV give your ‘yes’. Socialists and post-convergents have sealed the measure of grace to shelve the ‘procés’ judicially and have overcome the divergences that appeared last Thursday, just a week ago, by the formation of Carles Puigdemont regarding the perimeter of this future law, ruining the initial forecast of the socialists that involved tying the support of Esquerra and JxCat on the same day.

The former president of the Generalitat has finally reached an agreement that he will explain this Thursday in an appearance in Brussels and that must be discussed by the party’s membership in a consultation that is expected to be held this weekend. The signing of the agreement will take place between the secretary general, Jordi Turulland number three of the socialists, Santos Cerdán, in the Belgian capital, since Puigdemont does not hold any organic position in the post-convergent party.

Negotiating sources, as this newspaper already explained, assure that the obstacle of the mediator and also the national recognition of Catalonia had already been overcome, so the last flaws were in the beneficiaries of the amnesty, since Junts wanted to be more ambitious in the drafted and that some causes that they consider ‘lawfare’ would be included without putting the text at risk by the PSOE, which has always been vigilant that it is not vetoed by the constitutional Court.

The idea of Sánchez’s collaborators goes through register the future standard as soon as possible, although today is a holiday in Madrid, with all the groups who in principle will support the re-election of the acting president: from the PSOE to the PNV, passing through Junts, Bildu, Sumar, ERC and the BNG. It would be the previous step to the investiture, thus fulfilling the “payment in advance” which Puigdemont has been demanding since the negotiations began, although it cannot be its approval – as the former president requested – but rather the beginning of its processing, due to the negotiation calendar and parliamentary times. According to this plan, the debate in Congress to reinstate Sánchez will be held next week.

Large majority

There is something that facilitates this whole temporary scheme: if Sánchez seals all these pacts, as seems increasingly likely, he would have 178 votes in favor. Or 179 if the Canary Coalition also finally joins. In any case, it would be a sum above the 176 absolute majority, so the acting president would be re-elected in first vote, unlike what happened in January 2020.
