The Socialists do not believe that the decision that the Generalitat and the Government of Aragon present a joint candidacy to host the 2030 Winter Olympics should be ratified in a popular consultation such as the one that the Government has planted. The deputy secretary for Organization and Electoral Action of the PSC, Lluïsa Moret, rejected this vote on Monday because “There is no alternative to the Games.”
On July 24, two consultations will be held: one in Alt Pirineu and Aran, where the tests will take place, and another in Berguedà, Solsonès and Ripollès. “Does the Government have to present a candidacy for the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games?” It will be the first question while in the second the second group of counties will be asked if they want to get involved in the candidacy.
The PSC, for the moment, does not plan to campaign, because that way of approaching the Games “it’s not in the script” of the socialists, who from the first moment have supported the event. “The Government must promote and participate in the leadership of this joint call, which is an opportunity for the country and can provide many benefits to the Pyrenees and all of Catalonia”, Moret insisted.
