The province will make a decision on the reception location Zwaagdijk-West in early 2023

Local residents around a former agricultural company in Zwaagdijk-West have finally received an explanation from the province why this location is being investigated. Possibly status holders and urgent seekers will be housed here in flex homes. For weeks, the neighborhood was left with questions after the greenhouses on the site were suddenly demolished.

The reception location that the province has in mind is the Balkweiterhoek in Zwaagdijk-West, where a large greenhouse complex used to be. It was about to collapse and had to be demolished at the end of October. This caused unrest in the neighbourhood. Local residents got the idea that everything was already in place, without them knowing about it were informed.

To allay that concern among local residents and political parties, let the province now know why they are targeting this location in particular. ‘The reason why this location is now in the picture is the high pressure on the housing market and asylum seekers’ centres’, can be read in a letter in the hands of NH Nieuws.

Flex housing

The province is currently investigating whether it is (financially) feasible to build flex homes at this location, possibly intended for status holders and emergency seekers. It must offer a quick solution to the heated housing market and the reception crisis. For example, it is being examined whether and how roads, greenery and utilities such as electricity and sewerage can be constructed. Research is also being done into the number of flex homes and how long they will remain standing.

The province is expected to make a decision on this in 2023.
