The Prodigy in Berlin: Still an absolute preponderance live

The Prodigy performed on December 3rd. in the Berlin Velodrome. We share our (photo) impressions with you.

On Sunday evening (December 3rd, 2023) The Prodigy were guests in the capital. Photographer Erik Lorenz was there and captured the show highlights with his camera and also told us his impressions of the gig:

“The Velodrome was transformed into a vibrant melting pot of electronic music when The Prodigy took the stage as part of their Army of The Ants tour. The concert marked a moving moment for Berlin fans, as the band was on stage for the first time in the capital without their charismatic singer Keith Flint, who died in 2019.

The venue was packed to capacity when the remaining members – dancer and singer Maxim and keyboard mastermind Liam Howlett, as well as guitarist and drummer – took the stage. Already in the first three songs “Breathe”, “Omen”, “Voodoo People” you could feel the energy and intense atmosphere that The Prodigy is known for. Singer Maxim picked up on the heated atmosphere and wandered into the audience to join him Army of Ants. The light show that bathed the velodrome in a sea of lasers and strobes provided further goosebumps.

The eye-catcher at the gig was undoubtedly the imposing five meter high figure of an “Army of Ants” member, wearing a dark hood and glasses, towering over the mixing desk in the middle of the arena. Laser beams shot at the crowd from all sides from the stage and statue while the music sent the crowd into an ecstatic dance. But the real highlight of the evening came when the large statue with its glowing laser eyes projected the outline of Keith Flint to the global hit “Firestarter” onto the huge screen and set it in motion. It almost seemed as if he was on stage himself, wowing the crowd with his inimitable dance style.

Despite the painful loss of Keith Flint, the group was in top form and delivered an energetic performance. Maxim led the audience through The Prodigy’s hits with his charismatic stage presence, while Liam Howlett provided the pulsating beat on keyboards.

Conclusion: The “Army of The Ants” tour in Berlin was not just a concert, but an emotional journey through the music history of The Prodigy – in memory of Keith Flint and as proof that the group continues to be a force live.”
