Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, during his visit to Russia, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden, honoring the memory of Soviet soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War, a correspondent reports. “RIA News”.
Bolsonaro arrived to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before. According to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, during the meeting, the leaders of Brazil and Russia will discuss potential areas for expanding cooperation between the countries, as well as “hot topics” on the international agenda. Following the meeting, a press conference is planned.
Putin invited Bolsonaro to Russia in December 2021 during a speech at the ceremony of presenting credentials by visiting foreign ambassadors. The Russian president then called Brazil one of the important strategic partners and said that Russia plans to strengthen cooperation with it on trade, economy, energy, science and technology.

On February 1, Folha de Sao Paulo, citing diplomatic sources, reported that the United States was trying to cancel or postpone Bolsonaro’s visit to Moscow, which came at a time of aggravation of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border. According to the publication, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during a telephone conversation with Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos França, expressed concern that “Bolsonaro’s visit to Russia could be interpreted as a sign that Brazil is taking a side in the conflict.”
