The presenters of ‘La Marató’ on TV3 2023

Thirteen of the most representative faces of 3Cat (TV3 and CatRàdio) come together this Sunday, the 17th, to take charge of ‘The Marathon’, the solidarity ‘telethon’ of Catalan public television and radio. The objective is to disseminate and raise funds for the sexual and reproductive health. Five of the veteran presenters (in total, along with the newcomers, there will be 13) explain what participating in the program means for them and the importance of this year’s theme.

Xavi Coral

Xavi Coral He is already a veteran of TV3 and ‘La Marató’, because he never says no when they propose to participate. The presenter of ‘Telenotícies Migdia’ Since 2020, he considers it a privilege to be able to present it because you end up defending the work of a very large team and promoting a national effort. “The thing is that ‘La Marató’ already goes beyond TV3, It’s a nationwide project. and this gives respect, but at the same time it is very motivating,” he remembers. “Doing the ‘Marató’ is very exciting. I always say that ‘La Marató’ It is the Port Aventura of presenters because for us it is full of attractions: we can inform, do pedagogy, scientific interviews, emotional interviews with witnesses and dance, sing, do gags… each ‘Marató’ is unforgettable and it is sure that it will be too.

Regarding the topic discussed in this edition, it is considered very necessary, since we lack a lot of information about these diseases. “‘La Marató’ will serve to do pedagogy and normalize problems that those who suffer from them now hide. We will all learn many things and this will surely serve to improve prevention, avoid risky behavior and make the sick feel more accompanied.”

Roger Escapes

Another of the veterans, Roger Escapa, presenter of ‘The supplement’ at CatRàdio, who only declined the invitation when he had just become a father, assures that it is quite a organizational challenge which begins many months before December 17, “a day when you have more focus on you and there are many people watching you.” And he is proud that his program is the one that breaks the ice: “Having ‘El supplement’ be the one in charge of kicking things off is always a mix of emotion, nerves and responsibility. I hope to enjoy the program, as I always have. The experience of previous editions helps, she confesses.

The presenter considers that it is a success to dedicate ‘La Marató’ to sexual and reproductive health. “We all know cases or have witnessed them. I have the feeling that my generation has long since broken the taboo. But surely a program like this helps us do it on a global level as a society. It is a day to learn human stories and do pedagogy with scientists and doctors”, he says.

Núria Solé

Núria Solé, presenter of ‘TN regions’, highlights the program’s informative work. “All the information and testimonies that we will feel will help us to be more aware of how important it is to be well informed to prevent as much as possible these pathologies that are usually lived in silence, but that affect a large number of people, three million in Catalonia and 200,000 new cases each year.

Elisenda Carod

Elisenda Carod (‘The delay’, on CatRàdio) is “very proud that public television and radio address, without any taboo, a topic that has never been in the spotlight.” “Basically, because there are many issues that affect women and we already know about social and medical bias on the subjectand because talking about sex has always been difficult for us,” he points out. In addition, he is happy to “deal in depth with the whole part of maternity and pregnancy and fertility problems. “It’s a topic that has been buried for years,” he says.

The journalist will be reporting from the Maternitat headquarters. “I am 40 years old and have a lot of friends who could be any of the patients I will interview,” she highlights. “It may sound naive, but I feel that our profession of ‘storytellers’, ‘cartoons’ or ‘showbiz’, on a day like this, makes all the sense in the world,” she adds.

Helena Garcia Melero

The veteran of the veterans in these issues, Helena Garcia Melero, from ‘Tot es mou’, who has even presented some solo editions, celebrates this year’s theme. “I’m sure it will help many people, especially women, who for a long time have seen how they silenced serious health problems that affected them and that remained invisible. “There are many people who have felt alone and misunderstood because of some of the pathologies that we will treat.”

The journalist even recognizes that this ‘Marató’ is helping her on a personal level. “From a family point of view, it is helping me address issues with my teenagers which otherwise would be much more complicated.

And he concludes: “I face this challenge with that mixture of enthusiasm and respect with which I have always done so. No matter how many years go by, I still have ‘La Marató’ on the highest podium of the programs in this house.”
