The PP asks Collboni for “incentives” if he does not want his councilors to vote for themselves

The puzzle of the Barcelona mayor’s office is one of the most interesting that have left these municipal elections. Xavier Trias (Junts) won the elections with 11 councilors and on his heels came Jaume Collboni (PSC), with 10. The acting mayoress, Ada Colau (Barcelona en Comú) got nine; CKD, 5; Vox, 2, and Dani Sirera (PP), 4, although the role of popular councilors may be relevant.

Unless Vox appeals the electoral scrutiny through the courts — after trying twice in vain before the Zone Electoral Board and the Central Electoral Board — due to disagreement with the 6,400 null votes, this coming Saturday the investiture plenary session will be held. If there was an administrative dispute between the far-right party, the investiture would jump to July 7. If no parallel agreement is reached, Trias can be automatically elected mayor because he was the most voted for and because neither Barcelona en Comú nor Vox seem to want to give Collboni the mayoralty for free.

Sirera has suggested the possibility of granting the control rod to the PSC only if they guarantee that no member of Barcelona en Comú will be in the municipal government. He not only vetoes Colau, but also anyone on his team. The national PP spokesman, Borja Semper, said this Monday that Collboni has until Saturday to give “incentives” to Sirera. “Now, what do we have in Barcelona? We have Colau-Collboni. What is offered to us is Collboni-Colau. Man, it doesn’t seem like they are offering us many incentives,” Sémper joked at a press conference at the Genoa headquarters.

According to PP sources, the PSC He has not contacted Sirera in recent days, that he has already warned that, if he does not obtain any guarantee from Collboni, what he will do is that his three fellow PP councilors will vote for him on the day of the inauguration.

That decision, to choose themselves, would make it easier to choose Trias. Asked Sémper what do you think that this situation allows a classmate Carlos Puigdemont take over the mayoralty of Barcelona, the spokesman did not want to go into the substance of the matter and replied: “We are absolutely entitled to vote for ourselves, let’s see if the only party in this country that cannot vote for itself is the PP, it would be missing more “. “But, I insist, between now and Saturday there is time and Mr. Collboni has time to convince our candidate that things change”, he stressed.
