In Portugal, the newspaper ‘Record’ published that CR7 threatened to leave Qatar for his substitute against Switzerland

“The FPF clarifies that at no time did the captain of the team, Cristiano Ronaldo, threaten to leave the team,” says the Portuguese football entity

The storm in Portugal does not abate despite the fact that the team is brilliantly classified for the quarterfinals. Y all as a result of the substitution of Cristiano Ronaldo in the round of 16 match against Switzerland (6-1).

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has responded to information published by the newspaper ‘Record’ which spoke of a threat from the Madeira star. CR7 threatened, according to the newspaper, to leave the concentration knowing that he would not play in the starting eleven against the Swiss.

The FPF has published a note where it denies said information: The FPF clarifies that at no time did the captain of the team, Cristiano Ronaldo, threaten to leave the team during practices in Qatar. Cristiano Ronaldo builds a unique career every day at the service of the national team and the country, which must be respected and which attests to the unquestionable degree of commitment to the team”.

The Portuguese federation adds: “The degree of dedication of the player with the most international caps for Portugal was once again demonstrated -if necessary- in the victory against Switzerland. The National Team -players, coaches and the FPF structure- is, as it has been since day one, fully committed and enthusiastic about building what the country wants to be Portugal’s best participation in a World Cup.”

The atmosphere between Cristiano Ronaldo and the coach Fernando Santos is not ideal ahead of the quarterfinals, and more after the treble that his replacement in the lineup, Gonçalo Ramos, scored against Switzerland.
