The ports of Zeebrugge and Ostend open their gates on Flemish Port Day

The sixth edition was intended for 2020, but due to corona it will only be published today, three years later. Five ports open their gates to visitors on the ‘Vlaamse Havendag’: Antwerp, Ghent, Ostend, Zeebrugge and for the first time also Genk.

Innovation and experience

The central theme is innovation. Because ports never stand still and are a testing ground for groundbreaking and innovative products and techniques. According to the website in total more than 160 activities take place. This ranges from visits to port companies, ships, terminals or customs, to round trips, to piloting ships yourself in a simulator or sitting in a crane.

The Flemish Ports Day puts the important role of the ports in the spotlight and their impact on daily life. “People often don’t realize that the majority of everything they own enters Flanders through the ports,” concludes Lydia Peeters (Open VLD), Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works.
