The Poll: you are never too old to learn something

Judoka’s 79-year-old Giem Go-Tan and 84-year-old Harry Go both obtained their black belt this weekend at the Pleasure gym in Amsterdam Zuidoost. That is quite special because only 1 in 1,000 people who start judo ever achieve the black belt. Have you ever started something new at a later age? And is it different to learn something new when you’re older? Or do you regret that you never started that fun course sooner?

Margriet Sitskoort, professor of clinical neuropsychology at Tilburg University, takes up the fight against stereotypes about the over-50s with her latest book ‘The 50+ brain, aging brain in modern society’. She explains how brains work. Sitskoort states that by learning something new you maintain your brain. Other tips: eat healthy, connect with others, exercise, and don’t smoke or drink.

What do you think?

What about the stereotypes that as you get older, it’s harder to learn something new? Did you learn anything new later in life?
