The Poll: the climate actions at Schiphol are going too far

The activists of Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion had gathered earlier in the day in the Amsterdam forest, after which they drove a truck to Schiphol. They climbed onto the platform through the roof of the truck and a cut hole in the fence. Marechaussees watched for a while without taking action, but eventually handcuffed hundreds of activists.

Injury

The owner of a private jet to which climate activists chained themselves on Saturday is furious about the damage it caused to one of his planes. According to director Bernhard Fragner of the Austrian GlobeAir, the activists have destroyed a static discharger of a Cessna Citation by their blockade.

According to Greenpeace, the plane was already damaged when the activists arrived at the plane. Faiza Oulahsen, head of Climate and Energy at Greenpeace, informs NH Nieuws that it has been agreed in advance with activists not to damage aircraft and that she has not received any signals that this has happened against the agreement.

According to Oulahsen, Greenpeace is not concerned about any damage or claims. She hopes that owners of private jets will start worrying about global warming. Saturday’s action was specifically aimed at private jet aviation, which, according to Greenpeace, is the most polluting way of flying.

What do you think?

Is it good that attention is being drawn to air pollution in this way? Or do you think the actions go too far?
