The mobile phone, your laptop or your electric bicycle. They can all catch fire when charging the battery. The fire service is concerned about the growing number of fires that start in electrical appliances. Are you always there when your e-bike or computer is being charged?

The number of to burn caused by batteries increases. The fire service is very concerned about this rising number. In Amsterdam, 85 fires were caused by rechargeable batteries in the past year. In the past six months, fourteen fires have started in this way, compared to ten cases in the six months before.

Causes of the fires

The fire service sees that the use of batteries and the fires increase as a result, but the charging behavior does not change. The fires are caused by charging with cheap cables and the devices are placed on well-burning material such as pillows and clothing.

A tip from the fire brigade is to charge electrical appliances in the storage room and to hang a smoke detector here to keep escape routes free. It is also smart not to charge your devices without supervision. Do you take the charging of your electrical devices into account?
