The Poll: Fast food ban for minors

Fast food should according to the think tank of the CDA treated in the same way as alcohol and tobacco. It is harmful to health and the CDA wants to prevent people from starting it at a young age. If fast food restaurants do not quickly make their products healthier, then a ban on the sale of fast food to children should be considered, according to the think tank.

Healthcare expert Gerard Adelaar of the Scientific Institute for the CDA thinks a minimum age for a fatty bite is an option, but what age that should be has not yet been decided.

Patronizing

Gerard Adelaar does not find it a problem that the whole idea of a fast food ban for children comes across as patronizing. “I also found it patronizing when smoking in cafes was banned. But now I just like it. And many with me.” The fast food ban is part of a broader package of proposals for raising a healthy generation.

In the fight against an increasingly heavy Dutch population, State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen last month with the proposal to make it easier for municipalities to refuse the opening of new fast food chains.

What do you think?

Do you think a minimum age to buy fast food is a good idea? Or is this really going too far, and should young people be able to decide for themselves what they eat? Or do you perhaps see another solution to raise a healthy generation? And how often do you get a greasy bite?
