The Polisario Front considers that the speech pronounced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, during the High Level Meeting (RAN) with Morocco, in which he has advocated avoiding offenses in “sovereignty spheres”, implies assuming that the Occidental Sahara is part of alawi kingdomthus going “beyond” the twist announced in March 2022.
Then, the Spanish Government endorsed the plan of Moroccan autonomy for Western Sahara as the “most serious, realistic and credible” option to resolve the conflict. This Thursday, Sánchez promised in Rabat “to avoid everything that we know offends to the other party”, with a specific allusion to questions of sovereignty.
“The part of sovereignty that concerns Morocco refers to Western Sahara”, has assumed the delegate of the Polisario in Spain, Abdullah Arabi, in statements to Europa Press. In his opinion, there is no other reading, which would be leading Sánchez to “detach” from International Law and “ignore” the rulings of the Court of Justice of the EU that establish that Morocco and Western Sahara are “separate territories”.
Relations with Spain
“We are facing two countries”, stressed the delegate, immediately afterwards recalling that both parties are independently integrated into blocs such as the African Union.

For Arabi, this type of statement confirms the “suspicions” that “Morocco will always condition the good relations with Spain to have its sovereignty over Western Sahara recognized”, therefore without taking into account other possible elements.
In this area, it circumscribes that the Moroccan king, Mohamed VI, does not attend the forum or receive Sánchez: “It is one more image of what Morocco is capable of.” Arabi has affirmed that “nobody is aware that (the monarch) spends a lot of time outside his country”, but has pointed out that in the eyes of Rabat it seems that Spain’s concessions “are not enough”.
