The English police have started an investigation into a suspected case of racism in the Premier League match between Sheffield United and Luton Town in the Boxing Day round. Luton striker Carlton Morris claimed during the match that he was racially abused by the crowd.

According to Luton, Morris reported the offensive comments he received to the match referee.

“Both Sheffield United and South Yorkshire Police immediately took the matter into consideration, and the police are currently investigating the incident,” Luton says in a statement.

The Premier League condemned racism immediately after the match on its social media accounts.

– Racism has no place in our game or in any society. We encourage anyone who hears or sees discrimination to report it so we can take action, the Premier League said in X.

In the match itself, Luton grabbed a 2-3 away win at the last minute, while Sheffield Jack Robinson and Anise Ben Slimane scored unlucky own goals in the last quarter. He was responsible for Luton’s first goal Alfie Doughty.
