The Northamptonshire Police informs that they have received a tip-off about the protesters’ attempt to make it difficult to get through the F1 race weekend at Silverstone.
According to the British authorities, a “reliable source” forces the race organizers and the police to prepare for possible disturbances during the race on Sunday. He sends a message to the protesters that a possible protest should not be held on the race track under any circumstances.
Up to 400,000 spectators are expected at Silverstone this weekend. F1 enjoys enormous popularity, but the sport is in the teeth of people who are in the interest of the environment.
2020 protesters were arrested after they invaded the track area and hung a protest sheet in a visible place before the race.
This year, the authorities fear that the protesters will aim for a more visible provocation.
The police chief responsible for the security of the race weekend Tom Thompson appeals to the protesters.
– I would like to appeal to those planning a protest not to put themselves, drivers, railway officials or any volunteer in danger with their actions. Rushing onto the track is very dangerous. Such a reckless plan endangers the lives of many people, says Thompson in the press release.
Thompson reminds that protesting is a civil right in a democratic society. However, he hopes that the protesters will use common sense when choosing a place.
– We are happy to have a dialogue with the protesters in order to find a suitable solution. However, we ask that no life be put in danger, Thimpson states.
The threat of a track rush brings many F1 fans back to the 2003 race.
Then Neil Horan A priest called rushed onto the track in the middle of the race, running dangerously towards the speeding F1 cars. The dangerous situation was triggered when a brave track official tackled Horan to the surface of the track and pulled him off the track.
