After a weekend without games, the champions want to make up for their weak start to the season in the DEL. The recent away win in Bietigheim gives hope for a catch-up race.
After their short break in the DEL, the Eisbären Berlin go into the game against the Kölner Haie on Tuesday evening (6 p.m.) with renewed freshness.
“For us it was a weekend that we needed,” emphasized Coach Serge Aubin on Monday. “The boys had to recover from the tough program and were able to gather energy for body and mind. Today in training they looked a bit different again.”
Currently only in 13th place
For the German champions, who are currently only 13th in the table, after the hardships caused by the many games in October, it is now a matter of making up ground in the playoff ranks in the three remaining league games before the Germany Cup break.
Defender Eric Mik hopes that the recent 5-2 win in Bietigheim has marked a positive turnaround: “We won the last game and now we have to take the momentum and build on it,” he said.
But the Berliners still have room for improvement in many respects. “The key is to get a little better every day. If we can do that, we’ll be happy with our performance at the end of the season,” said Attacker peter regin.
The 36-year-old Dane admitted that his previous achievements could also be improved. “Of course I still have to improve a lot,” said the veteran, who moved to the capital in the summer with great expectations, but has not yet been able to compensate for the departures of Blaine Byron and Frans Nielsen in the all-important center position. “During the period when we didn’t win, I was frustrated because I would have liked to have helped more,” revealed Regin.
