Speculations about the future of world footballer Robert Lewandowski are gaining momentum. The reason is a first meeting between consultant Pini Zahavi and the top management of FC Bayern on Thursday.
There is still a big question mark behind Robert Lewandowski’s sporting future. Even if Bayern would like to extend the contract with the top scorer prematurely, it is completely open whether this will happen. According to current reports, the 33-year-old has two specific demands on FC Bayern. But the people of Munich also have a clear idea of how the Fifa world footballer will continue in the summer.
First Summit
While the contract poker between Bayern and Lewandowski has been splashing around for a long time, it is finally picking up speed. As the “Bild” reports, the first summit meeting between the FCB bosses and Lewy advisor Pini Zahavi took place in Munich today. Accordingly, the two sides exchanged almost 2.5 hours about the future of the top scorer.
Even if the club and the player are basically open to working together beyond the summer of 2023, there are no signs of easy negotiations. Apparently, this is mainly due to the demands of the player side. According to information from “tz”, Lewandowski attaches great importance to two points in particular: the contract period and his salary.
According to reports, the striker is demanding a new contract until 2025, which means an extension for two more years. His current contract with the record champions only runs until June 30, 2023. The problem: Bayern are not willing to offer their over-30 players long-term contracts. Accordingly, the aim is only to extend it to 2024. Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer also opted for such an approach.
The Last Great Contract
The reasons for this are obvious: Lewy, Müller and Neuer are all among the top earners at FCB. Those responsible are not willing to take too much financial risk with players who are already in the late autumn of their careers. For Lewandowski, on the other hand, it will most likely be the last major contract, which ideally will have a long term.
Building on the length of the contract, the salary is also a real sticking point in the talks. As “tz” claims to have learned, Zahavi is demanding an increase in salary. With an estimated 23 to 25 million euros, Lewandowski is already the top earner on Säbener Straße. According to “AZ” information, a salary increase is ruled out in Munich. Also because the top scorer has already reached the internal salary cap with almost 25 million euros.
It is unclear how Lewandowski will continue in the summer. If there is no agreement, according to the “Sportbild” he is aiming for an early farewell. However, the people of Munich categorically rule out this scenario, and according to the “Bild” they also underlined this in an interview with Zahavi. Accordingly, the Bayern bosses are quite ready to go into the last year of the contract without an agreement. However, this would run the risk of losing it on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
