Since 1995, at least 14 other hockey players have experienced the same dark fate.

Boris Sadecky, 2021

Slovakian professional hockey player who played for Bratislava Capitals Boris Sadecky unexpectedly shortened to ice against Dornbirn Bulldogs on 30.10.2021.

– It was the last change of the set. Suddenly, the opponent’s player fell to his knees and then lay on the ice. I wondered what he was trying to do when no other player was even close. At the same time, the buzzer rang and we left the locker room, Dornbirn’s coach Kai Suikkanen recounted the events of the tragedy to Iltalehti in 2021.

After being shortened, Sadecky was taken to the hospital, where the 24-year-old center died on November 3, 2021.

According to his relatives, Sadecky had suffered from mild heartburn on the day of the game.

More detailed examinations revealed that the man had a myocarditis, which could have caused the heart to stop in the middle of an ICEHL league game.

Timur Faizutdinov, 2021

Timur Faizutdinov had the puck hit by an opponent on March 12, 2021. The 19-year-old Russian defender lost consciousness in the situation and was taken to the intensive care unit.

– The area where the puck hit should be covered by the cover. The cover should work if it is in place. Unfortunately, this was not the case, the doctor of the Russian national ice hockey team and St. Petersburg SKA Yegor Kozlov said in an interview with Sport-Express.

Four days later, Faizutdinov passed away. According to Allhockey.ru, the cause was cardiac arrest.

Faizutdinov was the captain of the St. Petersburg junior team.

Alexander Orekhov, 2016

Only 16 years old Alexander Orekhov got a lump on his neck on 14.1.2016.

The puck came at a speed of more than 160 kilometers per hour and broke the young man’s neck. In the same stroke, the carotid artery was damaged, resulting in cardiac arrest.

Orehov was rushed to the hospital, where he was induced into a coma. It did not save the captain of the junior team of Metallurg Novokuznetsk. of The Standard he passed away three weeks later on February 4, 2016.

Dmitri Utchaikin, 2013

Kyle Fundytus, 2011

Sergejs Zoltoks, 2004

In November 2004 Sergejs Zoltoks suddenly passed out in Minsk in the middle of the game. However, the man woke up and went to the dressing room. He died there, at the age of 31.

According to the autopsy, Žoltoks’ heart had stopped. He had already visited the hospital earlier that year for observation due to heart problems.

– This is tragic. Žoltoks was a brilliant fellow, thoughtful and well-behaved person. He was a true professional. He took care of his body, did not drink alcohol, coached the Latvian national team Curt Lindstrom told STT after the tragedy.

Žoltoks was playing for HK Riga 2000 when he passed away. It was the NHL lockout. In the Taala League, the man played 588 regular season games with an output of 111+147=258.

Graham Christie, 1997

Bengt Åkerblom, 1995

Bengt Åkerblom died like Johnson when a skate cut his neck open in a training match between Mora IK and Brynäs in October 1995.
