The photographer and the postman

★★★1/2 So much has happened in Argentina since then that the cruel and macabre (adjectives fit, many more fit) murder of this magazine’s photographer José Luis Cabezas seems to have occurred in a ghostly area of the past. Hence, in times of pressure and journalism that do not know which way to go, it is timely to remember that fact. Among the best things about the film are all the possible testimonies, a very broad view of what happened on January 25, 1997. Also of the political spin-offs that surrounded the case and, above all, the photo of Alfredo Yabrán, on the cover of News and more than likely vehicle for the assassination of Cabezas. The case shows the dirty fabric of corruption and its consequences, and the film reflects it quite faithfully. Although, let’s agree, it does not lack some sensationalism, some forced equanimity. Anyway a reminder of something that can happen again.
