The data breach that targeted the information systems of transport service Westlog in August was the CEO Ossi Ojanen according to part of a series of similar attacks.
– A lot of different information has been found about similar attacks, and their frequency has increased at the same time that we were hacked.
Ojanen has understood that the attacks have been directed around the world. The hackers used the same malware that attacked Westlog.
Westlog operates as a home delivery service provider for Tena incontinence products in wellness areas. People who use incontinence products have, for example, urinary incontinence.
The personal information of home delivery service subscribers has been compromised in a data breach. Leaked customer information can include, for example, the customer’s name, contact information, social security number and orders placed.
Estimates of the extent of the breach vary
Westlog made a first estimate to the data protection commissioner’s office, according to which 100,000 people would be affected by the breach.
– It was the first assessment that was made in the middle of all the commotion. It’s not the best estimate of all, Ojanen answers.
He does not comment on the exact number of people affected by the data breach.
of STT according to the data collected, the vast majority of home delivery customers of incontinence products in Finland’s wellness areas have been affected by the data breach. STT’s article states that the company Essity, which manufactures Tena products, has stated in its own privacy breach notice that the data leak may have affected 50,000 of its customers.
According to Ojanen, the company has improved its data security through the data breach, although in his opinion it was already at a good level before the attack.
– There is still a lot to plan, how we improve and how we regularly take information security and its analysis into account in the longer term, Ojanen says.
