Pentagon: American submarine did not violate Russian territorial waters near Urup Island

The Ministry of Defense regarded the actions of the US submarine as a threat to national security
On February 12, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in the area of the Kuril Island Urup, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov “used appropriate means” against the American submarine Virginia, which violated the territorial waters of Russia.
The crew of the frigate handed over to the American submarine a warning about violating the Russian water border and the demand to “surface immediately” in Russian and English, the department noted, there was no response to the appeal. When using special equipment, the crew of the frigate was guided by the guidelines on violation of the state border, the ministry added.
The incident with the American submarine occurred in the area of the planned exercise of the ships of the Pacific Fleet. The Ministry of Defense assured that the exercises would continue.
