The padel remains independent: the acquisition by the ITF is rejected

At the General Assembly in Glasgow, the proposal of the n.1 of the international federation to incorporate the Fip was rejected

The padel remains independent. The International Padel Federation has strongly opposed the takeover attempt by the International Tennis Federation. At the general assembly which took place in Glasgow the proposal put forward by the ITF was discussed and the members of the FIP chose to reject the hypothesis.

The decision

The International Padel Federation chaired by Luigi Carraro is an independent body born in 1991. For more than thirty years it has been fighting to encourage the growth of this sport, organizing the World Cup (the last one a few weeks ago in Dubai) and launching from several months the new Premier Padel international circuit. This sport is now a certainty also in Italy. It suffices to analyze the data recently recorded in our country, especially in the south: in Sicily there has been a 60% growth in terms of fields, from 166 to 275. In Campania there has even been 86% more in the last year. Lazio – with Rome in the lead – remains the leading region. President Carraro himself commented on the decision as follows: “Today is a victory for the independence and integrity of sport, for our players, for padel enthusiasts and for all the institutions of world sport that promote and protect the independence of other sports bodies”. Surprisingly, members of the International Tennis Federation also voted against the proposed takeover by President David Haggerty. Choice shared also and above all by Fitp (Italian Tennis and Padel Federation) supported by the national bodies of France, Australia, Holland, Belgium and beyond.

Success

The Fip has launched the new Premier Padel circuit. The second of the four Majors scheduled took place in Rome and the last tournament of the year will be held in Milan from 5 to 11 December. Finally, the association of padel players, the true beating heart of this sport, also opposes the ITF proposal.
