The P in an interview: “For me, hustling is part of hip-hop”

It wasn’t long ago that Die P released their debut album 3,14, about which ME author Thomas Winkler wrote: “German street rap can also be intelligent”. That was 2021. A year later, the Bonn rapper picked up exactly where she left off: stories from the streets of Bonn on bass-heavy boom-bap beats and a head-nodding sound reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s. It’s all wrapped up on a new EP called TAPE 2, which follows up on their 2020 release TAPE. According to their own statement, this could result in an ongoing EP series.

I’m the climber, scene was already fucked up/
Today I rap with those who your father has already celebrated/

MUSIKEXPRESS met the rapper for the Zoom interview to talk to her about “Hustle” in rap, social media fame, annoying interview situations, her connection to old school and her connection to German rap veterans like MC Rene and Main Concept . She also had a few important tips for German rap newcomers who just want to get into the music business:

If you’re saying you want to make music and make money out of it, then it’s really good if you really know who you are before you go in there. People will always come who want to tell you how you should be or how you should or must be. But if you know yourself and you know where you want to go, it’s easier. Do you just want to make music or make money? Do you want to play in front of people or collect streaming money? Make a decision and stay true to your principles. It doesn’t matter if it’s rap or something else. This clarity is very important today. Especially in the age of the internet.

Have faith, because everything I wanted has come /
I’m still the same, I’m still in Bonn/

TAPE 2 by Die P was released on June 10, 2022. Listen to the stream here:
