The old Frederiksoord tram shed will become part of the De Proefcolony museum

The Pilot Colony will now use the warehouse for a small temporary exhibition about transport and logistics in the colony. “We have a great need for a temporary exhibition space. That is not possible in the museum itself, but it is here,” says Visser.

According to Visser, the building is also ideal for receiving groups or can be used for arrangements. “Applicants now often have to be disappointed, because there is only one room available in the museum for a maximum of 150 guests. It is in line with our aim to make more buildings visitable and experienceable.”

In addition to the exhibitions and group packages that the museum wants to offer in the old warehouse, the building will also be used as a storage facility for the Colony Tram and the Electric Colony Express.

Before the museum can actually start a temporary exhibition, maintenance work must be carried out. “The building is in good structural condition, but we need to insulate it. It looks neat and we can return it to a reasonable condition. We will remove a number of shutters so that we have windows again. We are also installing a kitchen and toilets,” Visser explains.

Museum De Proefcolony hopes to start restoration work and insulation as soon as possible. The plan is that the first guests will be able to visit the old tram shed in May of next year.
