The Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” is coming to theaters soon. The official trailer for the film about the British soul singer has now been released.
In Sam Taylor-Johnson’s (“Fifty Shades of Grey”) “Back To Black” Marisa Abela (“Industry”) will be seen on screen as Amy Winehouse. Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan and Lesley Manville also took on roles. The biopic will show Winehouse performing in the clubs of London in the early 2000s and is already creating a buzz among audiences. From there, her rise in the industry is followed, as well as private insights into her life.

Taylor-Johnson previously said in a press release that she immediately saw Abela as the right actress for the “British musician: “Discovering a talent like Marisa Abela is like finding gold dust.” The actress is said to have trained for hours every day, “to be able to sing throughout the entire film.” “She doesn’t embody Amy, she lives in her,” says the director.
Amy Winehouse was found dead on July 23, 2011. At just 27 years old, the singer died of alcohol poisoning with a blood alcohol level of 4.16 per mille. In her short career she sold more than 30 million records – and even more than ten years after her death, her songs are still streamed over 80 million times a month.
