The number of fatal accidents is rising most sharply in West Flanders
326 persons were killed. More than a quarter of these were pedestrians or cyclists.
In West Flanders the balance was very negative. There, the number of fatalities rose by no less than 31% from 35 to 46. In West Flanders, the only two fatalities were those who drove an e-step. In Limburg (-5 deaths), Antwerp (-3 deaths) and Flemish Brabant (-3 deaths) the balance was more positive than last year. In East Flanders, the number of road deaths did increase, from 30 to 35.
Better protection of vulnerable road users is the most important challenge of our road safety policy in the coming years, says VIAS.
