Significantly more long-term marriages broke up in Berlin last year than before. The number of so-called silver marriages that ended in divorce rose by 23.4 percent year-on-year to 838, as the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office announced on Wednesday. A silver marriage means the couple has been married for 25 years or more.
The number of all divorces in the capital remained roughly the same as the previous year at 5,851. 4,428 minors were also indirectly affected by the divorces.
1.9 percent of divorce cases involved same-sex couples; Same-sex couples have been able to get married since October 2017.
