The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom’s Cyber Security Center says in its press release that the number of cyber attacks has increased during the current year. In Finland, the number of reports of attacks has increased after a quieter spring.

The number of specifically targeted phishing emails and hacking attempts has increased. The Cyber Security Center highlights the world’s political situation, changes in the security environment, and decisions made by companies that could have influenced the number of attacks.

The Cybersecurity Center estimates that the threat level of cyber security has increased in Finland.

– We have compared the situation in Finland with the information of our international partner network, based on which we can say that the threat level has increased. Our analysis shows that the attacks on Finnish organizations seem to be more tailored now than before, and they are likely to be targeted at a specific individual organization instead of the earlier search shooting, CEO of Traficom Kirsi Karlamaa says in the announcement.

More and more companies fall victim to ransomware. In the summer, for example, Wärtsilä and STT announced that they had fallen victim to an extortion malware.

– We would like to remind you that as part of their daily operations and risk management, organizations should pay attention to preparedness, training and communication. Here, for example, STT has acted in an exemplary manner by communicating openly about the cyber attack against them, says Karlamaa.

The Cyber Security Center has published useful instructions for citizens and companies to protect themselves from attacks. You can familiarize yourself with the instructions from here.
