The night of the Libraries: a Saturday of reading in the open sky

More than 20 bookstores in the area will remain open to be visited and there will be an extensive program of activities, readings, talks and music to enjoy for free. Focusing on 40 years of democracy, a new special edition of The Night of the Libraries.

The classic event brings together readers, booksellers and authors in an open-air circuit that will have as its axis the reflection on the experience and the needs of the democratic exercise. The meeting organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City, through the platform Cultural Impulsewill be held next Saturday, March 4, starting at 6:00 p.m. in Av. Corrientes, between Cerrito and Av. Callao.

“40 years after the return of democracy, Argentines are clearer than ever that freedom, respect and diversity are non-negotiable values. Books are a reflection of all this, because they hide stories, characters and dreams that connect us with each other. The Night of the Bookstores is a unique opportunity to enjoy and vindicate all the magic, talent and cultural wealth of the City”, said the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta.

The proposal will have more than 50 activities that will take place in six scenarios arranged on the traditional Corrientes street and that will bear the names of literary references. The stages “Estela Figueroa”, “Antonio Di Benedetto”, “Vlady Kociancich”, “Ernesto Sabato”, “Quino” and “Sylvia Molloy”, will be located in various corners of the downtown area.

Will participate in this edition: Martín Kohan, Claudia Piñeiro, Santiago Kovadloff, Selva Almada, Ricardo Gil Lavedra, María O ́Donnell, Facundo Pastor, Sebastián Domenech, Bobby Flores, Sergio Wolf, Conrado Estol, Pablo Gerchunoff, Juan Di Natale, Sergio Olguín, Enzo Maqueira, Gonzalo Unamuno , Luisa Velenzuela, Mosquito Sancinetto, Walter Lezcano, Washington Cucurto, Lessie and Iván Moiseef, among others.

Some of the most outstanding activities of the programming during the night are: “40 years of media in democracy” with Hinde Pomeraniec, Juan Di Natale and Bobby Flores and the moderation of Patricio Zunini, at 7 pm on the Silvia Molloy Stage (Av. Corrientes 1699). “Three friends and the story of an era. A dialogue on democracy and friendship, between reality and fiction” with Claudia Piñeiro, Selva Almada and Débora Mundani and hosted by Mercedes Funes, at 7:30 p.m. on the Vlady Kociancich Stage (Av. Corrientes 1399).

On the other hand, there are also various conversations such as “The trial of the Boards. The power of the word and the image” with the participation of María O´Donnell, Ricardo Gil Lavedra and Sergio Wolf, at 7:30 p.m. at the Estela Figueroa Stage (Av. Corrientes 1199). Finally, the world of verses and poems will be present with “Poetry on your sofa” With the presence Mercedes Romero Russo, Maia Tarcic, Nina Ferrari, Martha Mega, Unai Rivas Campos, Fernando Bogado, Canela and coordinated by Tomás Rosner, organized by the Argentina PEN Center, at 8:30 p.m. at the Vlady Kociancich Stage (Av. Corrientes 1399).

“This edition of La Noche de las Librerías honors our 40 years of democracy by inviting us to the world of books. That information circulates, that dialogue is respectful, that ideas are diverse and that words and stories proliferate, is the way we have to guarantee freedom for many more years. We celebrate this event with a proposal that invites us to reflect on the importance of the various aspects of culture in the construction and consolidation of a country and a democratic city”, said the Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, Enrique Avogadro.
