The NHL’s rowdy player apologizes – Enrolled in the player’s association’s support program

Alex Galchenyuk, 29, apologized for his recent rant and announced that he has joined the players’ association’s support program, reports news agency Reuters.

– My behavior last week was deeply offensive, unnecessary, appalling, embarrassing, disrespectful and just plain awful. I let you all down and I’m really sorry,” he wrote on Twitter.

– Although this behavior after drinking alcohol does not represent who I am, I have to take responsibility for it, he continued in his message.

– My activity has cost me the opportunity to do what I love, play professional ice hockey. By signing up for the players union support program I hope to get the help I need and make sure I never make this mistake again.

Recent events

Galchenyuk was arrested in Scottsdale on July 9. He had crashed his car and fled the scene. In addition, Galchenyuk had behaved in a threatening and confused manner during the arrest. According to the police report, the player had said that with the help of his Russian connections, he would be able to harm the police and their loved ones.

– One phone call and you’re all dead. Your whole family and your family tree is gone, he is reported to have said.

– I’m going to dismember you, your wife and your daughter.

After the arrest, the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes said they had placed Galchenyuk on the transfer list with the intention of terminating the forward’s contract – less than two weeks after he signed a one-year deal with the club.

Galchenyuk holds US and Russian citizenship and his father is from Belarus.

Galchenenyuk was drafted into the NHL in the first round of the 2012 draft. In addition to the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Colorado Avalanche and twice the Coyotes.

The previous season was mostly spent in the Colorado Avalanche’s farm club Eagles, where 16+26=42 power points were created in 42 games.
