Viaplay, which has been showing the first league of American football NFL in Finland for the last few years, said on Wednesday that the series will be removed from their sports selection.
On Viaplay, the NFL has been made familiar to Finns in particular by the commentator Mika Laurila. The Super Bowl, the series’ most popular final game, has traditionally been able to be watched for free on an otherwise paid channel.
However, it will still be possible to watch the NFL in Finland, even if no television company buys the broadcasting rights.
The solution is the series’ own streaming service NFL Game Pass, which has been available in Finland before. The service, which shows all matches of the series, costs just under 252 euros per year.
The news sparked sharp comments, especially on Twitter from Finnish followers of the series.
