The next Ajax leader disappears from the stage: Maurits Hendriks leaves as sports director

Maurits Hendriks leaves the field at Ajax, the club reports on official channels. This is the outcome of an emergency meeting between the chief sports officer and the supervisory board that took place on Wednesday. Hendriks will leave the ailing Amsterdam football club on March 1.

After Sven Mislintat, Hendriks is the second director who is held (partly) responsible for the administrative and sporting chaos into which the Amsterdam club has collapsed in recent months. Hendriks had a contract with Ajax until the end of this year.

“It has been both a wonderful and educational time at this monumental club, with highs and lows,” Hendriks said in a press release. “I am now ready for a new administrative role to deliver what I expect from myself professionally. I thank my colleagues with whom I have enjoyed working together and wish Ajax all the best and even more sporting successes.”

With the retirement of Hendriks, supervisory board chairman Michael van Praag, supervisory directors Leo van Wijk and Danny Blind and supervisory board advisor Louis van Gaal have already made a difficult decision for Alex Kroes. It appears that the new general manager should have given Hendriks his approval as one of his first acts on March 15, 2023.
